The Kohla company was established in 1932 by Max Kohla in Innsbruck. Even then, it was clear that its main focus would be on mountaineering products "made in Tyrol". The headquarters' location in the heart of the Alps laid the foundation for the first products: Backpacks, poles, and hunting equpiment were the first items produced in Tyrol by Max Kohla KG. After several years of development, the first backpacks made of nylon were produced, and the use of aluminum revolutionized the construction of poles. In the 1970s, these innovations made the brand "Kohla" the epitome of mountaineering. Kohla did not only develop its own specific products, but also sold custom models to renowned manufacturers. At the end of the 1970s, the first telescope poles made of aluminum were introduced to the market. This means that, not only do we have plenty of experience in the construction of poles, but we also have been producing telescope poles in Tyrol in a quality-conscious manner for over 40 years.
In 2003, the Span brothers from the Tyrolean Stubaital took over the brand "Kohla", the staff, and the production of the company, and established the newly formed Ibex Sportartikel GmbH - a completely restructured business with over 20 years of experience in the fields of development, production, and distribution. The portfolio was reduced to the essentials. We develop, produce, and test our products in Tyrol, and, due to the short distance, are able to quickly respond to the feedback of our customers and integrate it into our products.
A number of awards over the last several years - among them two ISPO Awards (2013/14 and 2015/16) - confirm that we are on the right track and further encourage us to produce the best domestic mountaineering equipment. We can proudly claim that we are one of very few brands in mountaineering that produce more than 80% of its products in Tyrol or Austria and therefore make a substantial contribution to the protection of the environment as well as to the support of our staff.

CLIMBING SKINS
Kohla Tirol climbing skins are developed, tested and produced in the Tyrolean mountains. The excellent range of products has grown over the yeas and offers a wide selection of products that provide the best performance for both beginners and outright professionals - certified by a number of awards. Our high-performance products are produced with great care in a regional process in the heart of the alps and exported to more than 30 countries all over the world. Products of the best function and performance are brought to the market with the Vacuum Base Technology as well as the new skin structure.
BACKPACKS
Kohla's new backpack collection unites ski touring, alpinism and climbing in one product. The product series Track offers a wide range of features that have proven successful in all categories. The ultralight materials in combination with the new AIR LITE back system make these products your perfect companion. The Alpinist series has been specially designed for all alpine tours in the high mountains in summer and winter.
