When the little ones are already inspired by their parents' passion for hiking and the first tours of the new hiking season start, the children naturally don't want to have to make any compromises when it comes to their equipment. Why children should have their own backpack with space for a water bottle, a small snack and their favorite cuddly toy, and what to look out for when choosing and packing it, we tell you here. Whether for the next trip, the next hike or everyday life in kindergarten.

1. Children want to participate

At the age of two at the latest, sometimes earlier, rarely later, children discover their own will. This is more pronounced in some, less so in others. But they all have one thing in common: children want to participate.
Of course, they won't be able to play a major role in planning the next hike. But they will be able to participate in the actual tour. A backpack of their own, which can of course also be used as a kindergarten backpack, creates precisely this participation.

2. Motivation though responsibility

With their own children's backpack, children are given a piece of responsibility. They don't just demand this responsibility. Giving it to them motivates them, and a hike is immediately under a completely different star.

3. Enough space for the favorite cuddly toy

In the trekking backpack of the parents, the number of liters is short and next to spare clothes, water bottles and food for in between, there is soon no more space for supposedly useless things. In your own backpack, on the other hand, there is enough storage space for your favorite cuddly toy (if not all of them!). This provides additional motivation when the most important companion is always at hand.
In addition, a hike can be made much more exciting if things can be taken along that would not have found room in the parents' backpack. A magnifying glass can be used to explore nature along the way. In the mushroom guide, you can quickly check whether the discovered mushroom is edible or should rather be left standing.

4. Unpack your own snack

If there is still room in the children's backpack, the little ones will be proud when they can get their snack and their own water bottle from the backpack during a break - after all, they carried them themselves. Break and snack are then even more soothing.

5. The Big Five of the Alps

Everyone who has been on safari in Africa knows "Africa's Big Five": lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard.
But do you also know the Big Five of the Alps?
1. ibex
 2. chamois

6. Rocky, the ibex is always around

In the smallest children's backpack from the Happy series, Rocky the ibex not only decorates the front of the backpack, where he stands proudly on a rocky outcrop. He is also attached as a stuffed animal to a practical carabiner, which can also be used for other purposes, so that the little ones always have him with them. This provides additional motivation.

Of course, a discarded old trekking backpack with a short back or the gym bag that is usually used for soccer can also be used. However, they are generally not suitable for children's backs.

Our KOHLA children's backpacks are primarily designed to meet the needs of children. This means that they are made of robust materials and can even get dirty or be dragged across the ground without going straight to their knees under the strain.
Special back pads, carrying system (shoulder straps and an adjustable chest strap) ensure not only that the children's backpacks can be perfectly adapted to the respective back, but above all that it fits well and the weight (more on this later) is perfectly distributed. And so they make a good figure not only on a hike, but also as a kindergarten backpack.
So that they also have a certain suitability for everyday use as a kindergarten backpack, children's backpacks should be equipped with reflectors. Especially when it is still dark in the morning on the way to kindergarten in the dark season, reflectors help children to be perceived more easily.
Where there are special backpacks for hiking backpacks of adults , which are designed for the needs of women, so there is not yet this distinction for boys and girls, because the physical differences are not so significant. For this, girls and boys can choose the color that suits them.

This is what matters when packing a children's backpack:

This is what matters when packing a children's backpack:
Less is more and what no longer fits in the backpack with the parents, should not be charged to the children. The rather heavier items should be packed as far down as possible in the children's backpack. A low center of gravity ensures that the backpack is much more comfortable to carry.
Even if a capacity of 10 liters, 14 liters and even 15 liters of storage space is possible in theory with KOHLA children's backpacks, it is better not to exhaust this. For the maximum load of a children's backpack, about 20 percent of the body weight is a good guideline, beyond which it should not go.
However, it is also important to pay attention to the weight of the backpack. Our KOHLA children's backpacks from the Happy series weigh in at 400 and 500 grams, respectively, which is hardly noticeable.

"IF YOU LOVE YOUR CHILD, SEND IT ON ITS WAY".
